Notebook of Robert Thruston Hubard [manuscript], 1860-1866.

The volume contains notes from the lectures, 1860-1861, on mercantile law, of James Philemon Holcombe, an analysis of the rules of pleading in "Stephen pleading," a catalog of his law library, and Hubard's Civil War reminiscences, 1865-1866, of service with the Cumberland Light Dragoons (Company G, Third Regiment Virginia Cavalry). Hubard's reminiscences give an overall account of the causes of the war and Virginia's entry and relates his own participation from events at the University of Virginia in 1861 through his wounding in the war's last week. Topics include winter camp life in 1861, and the battles of Big Bethel, Yorktown, Williamsburg, the Peninsular campaign, Antietam, Stuart's Dumfries Raid, Kellys Ford, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Rappahannock Bridge, Spotsylvania, Yellow Tavern, Cold Harbor, Wilson & Kautz's Petersburg Raid, Winchester, and Sheridan's Valley campaign, 1864-1865. The collection also contains a genealogy "The descendants of Robert Thruston Hubard (1808-1871) by William Stebbins Hubard, 1999,
